The Waterberg Landscape Alliance is a public benefit organisation bringing together landowners, communities, and partners to drive landscape-scale conservation, safeguard biodiversity, promote resilience, and secure a sustainable future where people and wildlife thrive together.
The Waterberg, situated in western Limpopo, spans an expansive 4.5 million hectares (45,000 sq km). This region is a vast and biodiverse landscape of ancient mountains, rivers, savannas and forests. It is home to an extraordinary variety of wildlife and people who depend on its natural resources.
Biodiversity thrives when nature has space to flourish. Healthy ecosystems are not optional—they provide clean air, water, fertile soils, food security, and resilience in the face of climate change. Protecting biodiversity is therefore about resilience, sustainability, and the future of people and nature alike.
The Waterberg is already a stronghold for biodiversity and ecosystem services, but its full potential is yet to be realised. With greater protection, restoration, and integration into our societies and economies, the Waterberg can deliver lasting benefits for nature, communities, and future generations.
